April Admin Blog

Hello one and all,
As we come to another new month we have another new monthly update. With such exciting things that have happened over the month of April, I won’t waste your time as we begin.

Firstly, a look at what the admins have been working on.
To be honest, with the large and busy months we’ve had leading up to the Battle Buddies event, many of us slowed down with our projects over April, and that’s okay, whether it’s work, hobbying or anything else, it’s important not to overwork yourself, to slow down now and then, and take brakes when we need to.
That being said, here’s what we did manage to get done:

·       Baden: “Over the last couple of months I’ve just mainly been putting together and painting my entry for our admin painting competition that was on the 12th of April. It was a lot of painting and took a lot of effort to get everything together, so I’ve taken a little break from the hobby site but looking forward to getting back into it!” (Photo A)

·       Josh: “Taking a break from painting, I’ve been building like crazy this month, but I’m not ready to show what I’ve been building just yet.”

·       Jye: “After finishing my entry for the admin painting comp I slowed down a little, while still working on an Exorcist” (Photo B)

·       Phillip: “In preparation for the Conquest First Blood focus week coming up, I finally sat down and finished building all my W’adrhun. After a lot of glue fumes, and the ever-growing realization of how much painting I’ll have to do, I’ve now built my two starter sets.” (Photo C)

·       Valarie: “At the beginning of this month, I worked on and completed my battle buddies painting comp entry, then finished a few Imperial Fist legionaries and finally got around to building my conquest starter set.” (Photo D)

As the new month begins, let’s look back at the highlights of April:

·       We had the ‘first’ event of the year!! The battle buddies event took place on 12th of April, and it was a massive success!
We here at the admin team want to thank everyone that showed up, if it wasn’t for you and your support, we couldn’t be doing this. And for those of you that couldn’t be there for whatever reason, don’t worry, there’s always Friday and plenty of future events to come.
Some highlights of the event:

§  We had the battle buddies open painting competition, this was an open competition for anyone to enter a minimum of two models, with the theme ‘Friend or foe’. Seeing so many amazing entries was fantastic.
It was incredibly difficult for the judges to decide, they even needed a tiebreaker after some enthusiastic debate. In the end, the prizes were awarded to:
1st Jon with “orc being killed by black Templer” (Photo1)
2nd Ryan with “Witches and Witch Hunters” (Photo 2)
3rd Rebecca with “Joan of Arc” (Photo 3)

Congratulations to the winners, you truly earned it.

§  Continuing with the competitions, the admin painting competition,
this was a competition where the admin team put our own work out there for you to judge, the same way we asked you to do. With the same requirements and theme, we all worked hard to earn the ‘bragging rights’. In the end there could only be one winner, and with an outstanding lead, the winner was:
Valarie with “Nights Envoy” (Photo 4)

§  Aside from the competitions, we had games running all day, from a large 4 person 3000 points each game of Horus heresy, an intro game of Star Wars legion, and many more. The only times a game wasn’t being played were during lunch and dinner.

·       Jye started running some Painting Workshops, these are workshops that you are free to join, where Jye will share his years of experience in building, painting, and kit-bashing. This isn’t just for those that are new or looking to learn, as it is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together and work on similar projects. For information on which workshops will be happening and when, check out the event schedule, found in the announcements tab on our discord.

·       Now over to sports-
due to some unforeseen and unavoidable delays, a couple of games couldn’t be played in time for the deadline. To help accommodate this, Baiden, the event organizer, decided to extend the deadline by a week. This means I don’t have the final scores to tell you, but for all updates, head over to the ‘blood-bowl-league-updates’ tab on our discord, for the live feed.

April was a spectacular month, with many fond memories. However, now is the time to look forward to the future, with Gaming at the Phive recommencing on Wednesday the 7th of May from 5pm, 5 Fridays and many, MANY games to play in the month of May,
We’ll see you on Friday.
